Flying and outboard rib and
pipework.
Decided to take advantage of lovely weather this weekend and went
flying. In fact I have done quite a bit of flying during
January, so far this year i have flown 5 hours, which is only 3
hours short of the whole 8 hours I did last year !!!! BTW
don't hope t build and fly a lot if you want to take less than 10
year constructing. Anyway the snow was lovely up on in the
Peaks so I have posted some photos. The picture of the dams
is Ladybower Reservoir, which has a surface area of 242 acres and
was build between 1935 and 1943. There are 3 main dams the
upper one (last in the sequence) is Howden reservoir, then Derwent
reservoir and then into Ladybower which is the one with the
largest dam.
During the
Second World War
the Derwent reservoir was used by pilots of the
617 Squadron
for practising the low-level flights needed for
Operation Chastise
(commonly known as the "Dam Busters" raids), due to its similarity
to the German dams. Occasional
flypasts of
the
Battle of Britain Memorial Flight
are staged to commemorate this. (picture 10 of the sequence below
shows Derwent reservoir with the older Howden reservoir in the
background.

In the afternoon I riveted the
outboard rib and fitted the vent and fuel return lines and started
to put in the capacitance plates and wiring. I only have the
inboard rib; last capacitance plate and the baffle plate left to
do on the fuel tank. :-) getting there !!
